Fourth Ward

In the mid-1830's, Charlotte's center city was divided into four political wards. It is bordered by Tryon Street in the business district, the historic Elmwood Cemetery, Trade Street.

The historic Fourth Ward (1800's) covers about 30 city blocks and is known for it's charming Victorians, historic houses as well as Michael Alexander's restaurant and the Fourth Ward Park. 

'Friends of Fourth Ward' is a neighborhood association dedicated to the community development and preservation of Fourth Ward. Both individuals and businesses are involved with keeping this area special. Annual tours include the Secret Gardens of Fourth Ward tour, as well as Holiday Home tour.

The Fourth Ward is extremely pedestrian-friendly,  whether walking or using one of the city bike rental racks, the area has tree-lined streets, plenty of neighborhood parks & corner pubs.  It is also in easy reach of I-77 and I-85, should you need access to the Interstate system.
