Waxhaw North Carolina is no secret when it comes to those on the hunt for a pretty home located in an area with top ranking schools and easy access to retail shopping, medical care, and reasonable commute times to the Interstate system and the airport. Waxhaw fits the bill, and throws in a bonus of lower taxes - lower than Charlotte.
Waxhaw was designated as a Small Town Main Street Community (2009) and, in being such, the town counsel is dedicated to revitalizing it's downtown area.
Traditional events keep Waxhaw's Main Street historic character front and center with the old-time charm it exudes during the holiday season-with 500,000 lights twinkling, a Christmas Parade, and a number of other holiday events that take center stage.
Waxhaw also celebrates many festivals such as the Art Kaleidoscope Festival -where the arts "Kaleid" with food, music, and crafts. Alongside the Kaleidoscope Festival is the "Art is Beer" Craft Beer Fest. Both, putting a new spin on historic downtown. Waxhaw is also home to very good restaurants & antique shops as well as a few taverns. Downtown Waxhaw has a nice children's park and a skate park good for skaters, skateboards and bicycles.
Waxhaw's Cane Creek Park is a substantial (and wonderful) park which has 1050 acres that surround a 350 acre lake.
It offers picnic shelters, camping, horse-back riding, a sandy beach for swimming, a bass lake for fishing, paddle boat rentals and many other activities. Here you can have a day at the lake, and it's right at your fingertips!
For outdoor enthusiasts, the Carolina Thread Trail will ultimately connect the Twelve Mile Creek Greenway as well as Cane Creek Park into it's growing system of trails. Currently, the Town Creek Park trail (of the Twelve Mile Creek Greenway) connects to the Prescott neighborhood, giving its residents access to the trails and the Town Creek Park.
Optimist Park is home to the local recreational fields, and is packed with competitive sports teams throughout the year, including training those that cheer them on. For more information on Optimist Park, go here.
The downtown area of Waxhaw was once surrounded by large tracts of farm land and pastures. Today, the landscape takes on a new look, as those farmlands have turned into substantial subdivisions.
The major areas for real estate developers has been concentrated along the northern borders of Union County - at the edge of Ballantyne and Providence Road, as it makes its way South out of Charlotte.
The Waxhaw subdivisions provide you with a great selection of amenity-rich neighborhoods, featuring community pools, clubhouses, walking trails and tennis courts.
Waxhaw homes for sale come in a variety of price ranges, development styles and locations. Some of the communities are within minutes of the Charlotte border, where others can be as much as 15 miles out. Note: the closer you are to Charlotte, the higher the sticker price.
Waxhaw also has more than it's fair share of luxury communities with Charlotte's fine builders designing some of the most beautiful custom homes in the region.
Top of the line, gated communities in Waxhaw include the golf course community of The Club at Longview as well as the stunning gated communities of Skyecroft (pictured here), and Providence Downs South - all showcasing homes in the million dollar club. Beautiful.
If you are living in Waxhaw, your daily routine will likely include a pleasant drive past horse farms, produce stands and large estates.

The health care and shopping located within those commute times is more than ample for most people.
Shops at Blakeney, include a Super Target, Marshall's and Home Goods as well as restaurants, dining, and boutiques.
Across the way, you'll find Best Buy, Pet World, and a full host of health care providers. Blakeney is at the edge of Rea Road, as before it enters Union County.
Waverly, is a new retail center anchored by Whole Foods, and is located near Providence at I-485.
Waverly also has an ample supply of dining and retail stores. The area is in the throws of development and is coming along beautifully. Waverly also has local health care providers and gyms nearby.
For those getting deeper into Union County, your neighborhood shopping will be found at the Cureton shopping center or the Village Town Center closer to Weddington. Both of these shopping centers will cover your daily needs, and then some. Including gyms, health care, fast food, banking, and so on.
