As the city of Charlotte developed, the suburbs began to develop along the main artery of Providence Road - heading South.
To this day, South Charlotte homeowners have their pick of great schools (private and public), easy access to some of Charlotte's best shopping, restaurants and area recreation.
Homes for sale in the Providence High School area are always in demand, keeping the prices a bit higher and the supply a bit lower.
The good news is that the home values continue to steadily climb - as long as the the residents continue to keep the area and its schools up to par, there is no reason for that tread not to continue.
Convenience: Using Providence High School as your location, the drive time to uptown Charlotte or the Charlotte-Douglas International Airport is 30 minutes; Southpark and Carolina Place Malls are 15 minutes; and the Arboretum Shopping Center (dining and movies) is less than a 5 minute drive.
The Providence High school area is a residential area primarily made up of medium sized to large single-family homes and townhouses.
Most of the residential real estate is owner occupied, however, there is also a nice selection of apartments and condos in the area.
Many of the houses in the Providence High School district are established but not old, having been built between 1970 and 1999. A number of residences were also built between 2000 as well as a few new home communities to choose from and lots to build a custom home on.
With such a prominent spot in South Charlotte, you'd think there would be a name for the area surrounding the Providence High school district, but there is not. Providence High School and the Arboretum seem to be what anchors the area - both are located in Charlotte 28270. Providence High School also serves homes located in Matthews (28105) as part of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg public school system.
Providence area in South Charlotte offers a diverse group of neighborhoods to choose from, whether you like a country setting; everything tucked in nice and neat; or a luxury custom home community, the area has it all.
A few of the larger communities are featured below, starting with Providence Plantation.
Providence Plantation is a large wooded community with wonderful winding roads and rolling terrain. It has approximately 1400 homes built from 1970, many of which are basement homes. The prices range from the mid $300's to over a million dollars. The lots can range from one fifth of an acre to three acres.
As large as Providence Plantation is, it's helpful to have a sense of how the various sections were added as the community was developed.
To drive in to the neighborhood (from the opposite side of your destination), may add an additional 15 minutes to your trip. It's a lovely neighborhood, so for those with time to take the scenic route...please do!
There are five entrances: The homes are sectioned off with themes used on the street names. You may find yourself in the "Gone with the Wind" section living on Rhett Butler Place, India Wilkes Place, or Beaucatcher Lane. If that's the case, you should likely use the Weddington Road entrance.
Or, you could find yourself amidst Camelot, living on Lancelot Drive, Deerwalk Avenue or Camelot Drive, take the Kukendall entrance off of Providence Road.
The main entrance (Providence Road and High Ridge) guides you into the neighborhood through a breath-taking tunnel of trees. From this route, you will be in the section with streets named for the many trees that grace the neighborhood-like Flowering Dogwood Lane, Bittersweet Lane and Bee Tree Circle.
Providence Plantation has a very active (voluntary) community home owner's association. The association provides for plantings, off hour security and community updates for a very small annual fee. Providence Plantation also has a "members-only" Swim and Tennis Club - as a home owner, you would pay an additional fee for this membership.
Beverly Crest was developed in the early to mid 1990’s, by hometown favorite Saussy Burbank, the neighborhood home prices range from about $250,000 to $500,000 with living space roughly 1800 to 3200 square feet.
Beverly Crest also includes two sections of townhouses built by Pulte, one (upscale) overlooking the neighborhood lake, and one in an enclave near the community club house and amenity center. View Beverly Crest Homes for Sale, here.
The charm of Beverly Crest comes with its lovely (and varied) home styles along with the great lighted walking paths that run through the neighborhood, circling the lake, past the giant boulders and back up to the neighborhood's tree lined, side walked streets.
Other amenities include a community club house, pool, tennis courts, and an active homeowner association. The Arboretum shopping center is within walking distance as is a daycare center, Providence High School and a city bus stop.
The Raintree Country Club offers a full suite of real estate to choose from, including single family residential homes, condominiums, a few different village settings with townhouses as well as patio homes - all told, approximately 1000 places to call home.
Developed in 1971, the Raintree community has four entrances, so depending on where your house is, you could be located close to Stonecrest, The Shops at Piper Glen, Providence Promenade or The Arboretum - each of these are shopping centers with restaurants, dining, and two with movie theaters (Stonecrest and The Arboretum).
There is also a nice variety of architectural styles - and, all in all, Raintree offers a good value for those that would like to live in a golf course community as well as enjoy the benefits of being in a top ranking school district and having a community that offers life's simple pleasures, like bike paths, fishing ponds and picnic areas.
The Raintree Country Club has two championship 18 hole golf courses, a driving range, 2 practice greens, a teaching area and a Pro Shop. It also has an impressive tennis complex with 9 lighted courts-5 clay-4 hard surface.
The community swimming center is fantastic, featuring a snack bar, a 25 meter pool with water-park style slide and diving board…plus a kiddie pool. It also has a complete Fitness Center with personal trainers, yoga, etc.
The Raintree Clubhouse has a variety of rooms suitable to host functions from grand elegance to business casual. Sunday brunch and dining at the Lakeside Grill are always popular community venues.
The Forest is a luxury home community located within walking distance of Providence High School...it is located in Matthews, NC. This is one of the few luxury home communities in the Providence High school district.
It has beautiful (true) one-of-a-kind custom homes on half acre (+) wooded lots, with prices starting at $800,000 but more typically, over a million dollars.
Charlotte's fine home builders in this community have produced some beautiful Old European style manor homes, as well as distinguished Tudors and Old World designs featuring stone, brick and cedar shake exteriors with wrought iron accents and heavy coach lighting on lots with mature landscaping.
The Forest has an active home owners association that creates good neighborhood events happening throughout the year. Many of the homes in The Forest have private pools, spas, and outdoor kitchens. And, although the community does have the privacy offered by a forest, it is in easy reach of all city venues.
There are great public schools serving the South Charlotte area, but there are also quite a few fantastic private schools as well.
