In the mid-1830s, Charlotte was divided into four political wards. the intersection of Trade and Tryon as the 0-0 coordinate, and imagine the Wards as the quadrants - First Ward is the upper right hand quadrant. It's re-development started in 1993, with First Ward Place. Residential options in First Ward include  townhouses, mid-rise apartments & high-rise condos.

The 4-acre First Ward Park opened in late 2015, across the street from ImaginOn Children’s Theater, the main Charlotte City Library and the 7th Street Public Market.
