University City gets it's name from UNCC, the University of North Carolina - Charlotte. Located in the northeastern part of Mecklenburg County, University City has everything a town needs to sustain itself.
Easy access to two airports (Charlotte - Douglas International Airport and the Concord Regional Airport), three interstate systems (I-77, I-85 and I-485), the Lynx Blue Line light rail, uptown Charlotte and Lake Norman, make it a very complete package.
University City was built around UNCC, and in doing so, has kept trends fresh and innovative while supplying a highly educated and enthusiastic workforce.
UNCC grants 6,000 degrees annually, fueling employees in businesses from energy and finance to healthcare, technology, and data analytics.
The University City area of Charlotte has 171,000 residents (and growing) is one of the most culturally diverse sections of the city.
It offers a large range of home styles from luxury homes to mixed used developments and condos designed just for college students.

University City is home to the PNC Pavilion, which handles crowds of 20,000 throughout the year for all sorts of concerts in it's amphitheater setting.
The University at Charlotte also provides quite a bit of area entertainment. Look no further than the Belk Theater (at UNCC Robinson Hall), which provides music, dance and theater events throughout the year.
University City is within easy reach of the Charlotte Motor Speedway. The Speedway has events taking place throughout the year, but most notably, the NASCAR Coca-Cola 500 and the Bank of America 500 Race as well as z-Max drag racing. The races bring in tens of thousands of fans, once in the spring and once in the fall.
More locally, UNCC fans and alumni come to see the Charlotte 49ers play football, basketball, golf, tennis and baseball among many other athletic events at the University.
Lesser known events include the International Festival at UNC Charlotte (which draws in 20,000 people representing 50 nations) and the University City Duathlon in University Research Park.
Like most areas in the Carolina's, the Charlotte area has a good supply of golf courses. If you're a golfer, you won't have to travel far as University City has three golf courses. They are Highland Creek, Skybrook and The Tradition.
As for Parks, the Reedy Creek Park and Nature Preserve has 850-acres that include athletic fields, playgrounds, fishing ponds and a competition-level disc golf course, plus 10 miles of forest trails with it's own nature center offering educational programs. Reedy Creek Park also is host to the annual August Hummingbird Festival.
UNC-Charlotte is also known for it's exceptional botanical gardens and greenhouses showcasing rhododendron, azaleas and other Carolina flora. If you like exploring the great outdoors, a visit to the University's various botanical gardens should suit you well.
The Charlotte Greenway system weaves its way with 12 miles of trails through the University area, Research Park and multiple neighborhoods, not only good for getting around, but good for your health! (Toby, Mallard and Clark’s Creek green-ways connect to the campus.)
The Healthy UCity Race Series, is a collaborative running/biking series featuring nine road races starting with a Spring Warm Up and moving in to fall with the Turkey Trot. Events range from fun runs to a duathlon and are offered throughout the year - all take place in the University City area using various scenic routes.
The most well known shopping center in the Carolina's is the Concord Mills Outlet Mall - so large, you won't be able to finish it in a day. Other nearby areas to shop include IKEA at Belgate Shopping Center, the Northgate Mall and Birkdale Village in Huntersville.
There are also well over 30 other retail shopping centers dotting the area and likely will be able to find what you need along the way.
University City restaurants and dining venues are much like the shopping - tons of places to choose from. Whether you are seeking indoor, outdoor, casual to upscale - your dining needs will be met as there are approximately 150 restaurants and bars, 45 of which are international and/or ethnic based cuisine.
The Shoppes at University Place is the new location for the University City Wine Fest as well as ongoing events throughout the year, including a free concert series. The Shoppes at University Place overlook a small lake so you can stroll the boardwalk then dine outside and enjoy live music. Or enjoy some live music at The Wine Vault as they also have free music events specific nights of the week.
